Four Deities Empowerment in the Shangpa Kagyu Tradition
Saturday, October 11, 2:00 p.m.
(Arrive by 1:45 p.m.)
The Empowerment of the Four Deities, often referred to as “Achieving the Deities of Six-Armed Mahakala, Vajrayogini, Chenrezig, and Green Tara in Conjunction” authorizes one to engage in one of the main practices of the Shangpa Kagyu tradition. The practice of the Four Deities, which is a form of Guru Yoga, is both powerful and carries a great blessing.
As a result of doing this practice one receives blessings from the Great Dorje Chang. It is from receiving Dorje Chang’s blessings that one is able to realize the state of Mahamudra and understand the nature of one’s mind. Therefore, this Empowerment and its accompanying practice is considered to be essential for any practitioner of the Dharma.
The Refuge Vow is required and will be offered prior to the Empowerment.
The cost is $30 general ($25 KDC members). It is also customary to make a donation and kata offering to the empowering Lama.
Four Deities Teaching and Practice
Sunday, October 12, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
(Arrive by 8:45 a.m.)
This practice, known as “Achieving the Four Deities in Conjunction”, has the profound ability to purify past negative actions, obscurations, faults and failings, diseases, harmful influences and obstacles. The lineage of the Four Deities Empowerment and Practice began with the great female Dakini Sukhasiddhi and Rahula. Kyungpo Naljor, the head of the Shangpa Kagyu lineage, received the entire transmission from both of them. From there, it was passed down through the ages, without any break, to the great Guru Kyabje Dorje Chang Kalu Rinpoche.
In order to realize the supreme state of Mahamudra and understand the nature of one’s mind, it is necessary to receive the blessings of Dorje Chang. The Four Deities in this practice (Six-armed Mahakala, Vajrayogini, Chenrezig and Green Tara) enable us to do so by providing us with a method of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations. Participants must have received the Empowerment.
The cost is $35 general ($30 KDC members). The Pecha (practice text) is $15.
You are welcome to bring a lunch and stay during the break.
