In keeping with KDC’s annual tradition, Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing and KDC’s western Lamas will perform the Amitabha Puja for Deceased on Memorial Day, since it is the time when we traditionally honor our loved ones who have passed away. This year, Memorial Day falls during Saga Dawa, therefore the benefits of the Puja is multiplied 100,000 times.
This Puja is extremely helpful when performed for the benefit of one who has died. After dying, due to karma and habitual patterns, we have no control over our future rebirth, and we are driven by the power of our previous actions. This profound Puja purifies negativities and obscurations and liberates the deceased from samsara, leading to rebirth in the Pure Land of Dewachen.
Names of deceased and donations may be submitted for this special Puja by anyone who has had a family member or friend pass away, whether the death is recent or long ago. It is traditional to make a monetary offering along with the names in order to accumulate merit and welfare for the deceased. Due to the auspicious nature of interdependence, there is a direct relationship between donations made on behalf of the deceased and the benefits the deceased person receives from the Puja. The names of the deceased are burned during the Ceremony by Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing to purify their negativities and defilements so their path to Dewachen will be unimpeded.
It is both customary, and beneficial, to submit names and donations for the Puja each time it is performed. Please submit them by Tuesday, May 25th to KDC’s mailing address: KDC, 215 E. 33rd. Avenue, Eugene, OR 97405. Please indicate if you need a receipt. (Download PDF request form at www.kdc.eugene.org).
Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing and his attending Lamas will perform this special Puja by themselves, due to the restrictions of Covid-19 and out of an abundance of caution for all. Please join them in spirit on that day by doing your own Dharma Practice at home. Lama-la recommends doing Amitabha or Chenrezig Puja, or reciting the mantras of Amitabha and Chenrezig while praying for your loved ones who have passed away and all those who have died from the Corona virus.
We are very blessed to have Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing performing this rare and profound Puja for our loved ones.
